The Shapiro family audiotapes are arranged chronologically. This collection consists of recordings of a series of discussions Louise Silk had with her father Howard Shapiro and her uncles Samuel and Jason Shapiro in which they talked about their family history and the history of the National Record Mart. The conversations were taped and transcribed by Louise Silk. The transcriptions are included.

In 1945, Hyman Shapiro with his sons Samuel, Howard, and Jason started the record retail business that was to become National Record Mart. The family sold the business in 1986.
